TRAVELING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF
QUEEN KAPI‘OLANI

Be transported to an era of Hawaiian royalty when
King David Kalākaua and Queen Julia Kapi'olani were the
reigning monarchs of the Kingdom of Hawai'i.

Colette Higgins will share her sabbatical experience tracing the footsteps of the Queen when she traveled to England as a guest at Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.

About Colette Higgins

Colette Higgins holds an M.A. in History (Pacific Islands) and a B.A. in History and Anthropology, all from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. She also earned an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Kapi'olani Community College. Her 2015-2016 sabbatical leave from Kapi'olani Community College was to primarily trace and record the travel of Queen Kapiʻolani to London, England.

Higgins has taught Hawaiian history for nearly 20 years, served as Department Chair at Kapi'olani Community College, and is a recipient of the Board of Regents’ Excellence in Teaching Award and Frances Davis Award for Excellence in undergraduate teaching. She has served as a board member of the Waikalua Loko Fishpond Preservation Society and done extensive research on Queen Kapi'olani. Currently, Higgins is the Dean of Academic Affairs, Division I at Windward Community College.
